Tier I to Tier III with SCR for a research vessel
Tier change from Tier I to Tier III with SCR, certified to Scheme B.
The starting point
An ocean research vessel exists to protect what it studies. It went from Tier I to Tier III, with a full Technical File measurement campaign to prove it.
A Tier change means a new Technical File and Survey Document for the engine group, and the SCR is certified to Scheme B of MEPC.399(83).
How we did it
- 1Class, designer and owner aligned
Scope and approach agreed with class, the engine designer and the owner before any test.
- 2New Technical File
Built for the engine group with SCR, together with the Survey Document.
- 3Full onboard campaign
A complete Appendix V measurement onboard, on the parent engine, with all equipment calibrated down to the smallest detail and the surveyor present.
- 4SCR verified
Verified to Scheme B of MEPC.399(83).
- 5Member engines
Followed with the parameter check method and their own application.
Developed with specialists from the engine designer and carried out together with the ship’s crew, in close dialogue with the owner, which made all the difference.
What the customer got
A vessel that matches its mission
An ocean research vessel with certified Tier III NOx levels, measured onboard and approved.
Compliance from the start
Class is aligned early, so the measurements and the documentation fit the approval process.
One approach for the engine group
The member engines follow the parent engine, so the whole engine group is covered.
A substantial cost reduction on the member engines
The full measurement is made once.
Doing the right thing for the planet means little without proof. This one has it.
Read the technical details
- Joined before the scope was fixed and aligned the approach with class, the engine designer and the owner
- Built the new Technical File and Survey Document for the engine group with SCR
- Documented the SCR system and its operating conditions
- Performed a complete Appendix V measurement onboard, on the parent engine, with all equipment calibrated down to the smallest detail and the surveyor present
- Verified the SCR according to Scheme B of MEPC.399(83)
- Handled the member engines with the parameter check method, each with its own application
- Developed a check method, so a surveyor can identify that each engine complies
- Followed the file through approval with class
Shown without names, as agreed with our customers.
